Flowpack, also known as horizontal form-fill-seal (HFFS) or flow wrapping, is one of the most widely used packaging methods for food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical products and many other consumer goods. The product is fully enclosed in a flexible film and sealed along its length and at both ends, creating a tightly closed, transparent single pack. BOPP films are particularly well suited to flowpack packaging because they combine high transparency, strength, flexibility and excellent sealability.

How does the flowpack process work?

In the flowpack process the film is unwound from the roll and fed into the packaging machine. The product to be packed is placed onto the film web, manually or fully automatically. The machine forms the film into a tube around the product, seals the longitudinal seam and then seals both cross seams with heat or pressure. Finally the film is cut between the seal seams, creating individual, ready-packed units. This allows products to be packaged quickly, hygienically and at high speed.

What are the advantages of flowpack packaging?

Flowpack combines efficiency with product protection: the flexible film encloses the product on all sides and reliably protects it against moisture, dust, oxygen and mechanical damage. At the same time, the transparent BOPP film ensures an attractive product presentation at the point of sale. Depending on the film structure, barrier properties, aroma protection and shelf life can be set precisely, keeping the quality and freshness of the packed products intact throughout the supply chain.
