Why Bio Film?

Why Bio Film?

Bio films combine product protection with verifiable compostability. Cellophane and NatureFlex are based on cellulose from certified forestry, PLA on plant-based lactic acid. The films are highly transparent, antistatic and print well, with compostability to DIN EN 13432 confirmed by OK compost certificates.

  • Certified compostable to DIN EN 13432, industrially and, depending on type, also in home composting
  • Highly transparent, antistatic and glossy for product presentation

What Are Bio Films?

Bio films are packaging films that are biodegradable and compostable. The main representatives are cellophane and NatureFlex based on cellulose, as well as PLA (polylactic acid) made from plant starch. They replace conventional plastic films wherever compostability is required or desired as a selling point, for example with organic food, baked goods, confectionery and in floristry.

What Properties Do Bio Films Have?

Cellophane and NatureFlex are highly transparent, glossy, antistatic and twist-wrappable. With coating, they are heat-sealable and offer good water vapour and aroma barrier properties. PLA is crystal clear, rigid and prints well. All three materials are food-contact compliant to EC 1935/2004 and can be printed by rotogravure and flexographic printing.

What Does Compostable to DIN EN 13432 Mean?

DIN EN 13432 specifies that packaging must disintegrate and biodegrade by at least 90 percent within twelve weeks in an industrial composting facility, without harmful residues. Certificates such as OK compost INDUSTRIAL or OK compost HOME confirm compliance. We supply bio films with corresponding certification.

What Are Bio Films Used For?

Typical applications include flow-wrap and bag packaging for bread, pastries, cereal bars and confectionery, micro-perforated films for fruit, vegetables and herbs, floral films in floristry, as well as labels and bands. As a laminate layer with paper or barrier coating, bio films are also suitable for coffee, tea and dry products.
