Why Laminate Film?

Why Laminate Film?

Laminate films combine the strengths of individual materials in a single structure: the printable, rigid outer layer of BOPP or PET, the barrier layer of aluminium or metallised film, the sealing layer of CPP or PE. The result is exactly the barrier, strength and appearance your product needs for its shelf life, without over-engineering. Available as a recyclable mono-material laminate on request.

  • Barrier against oxygen, water vapour, light and aroma to requirement
  • Reverse printing: brilliant print image, protected from abrasion
  • Recyclable mono-material laminates of PP/PP or PE/PE available

What Is a Laminate Film?

A laminate film, also called a multilayer film or composite, consists of two or more film or paper layers permanently bonded together by lamination. Each layer performs a task: printability and rigidity, barrier against gases and light, or heat-sealability. Laminate films are the standard for all packaging with high requirements for shelf life and product protection.

What Properties Does a Laminate Film Have?

The properties result from the layer structure. A BOPP/CPP duplex is glossy, moisture-tight and seals well. A PET/Alu/PE triplex offers near-complete barrier against oxygen, water vapour and light, with OTR values below 1 cubic centimetre per square metre per day. All laminates are food-contact compliant to EC 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011.

What Laminate Structures Are Available?

Common structures include duplex laminates of BOPP/CPP or PET/PE, triplex laminates with an aluminium or metallised intermediate layer, and paper/PE laminates. Recyclable mono-material laminates of PP/PP or PE/PE, which meet extended producer responsibility requirements, are increasingly in demand. Printing is done as reverse printing and is thereby protected from abrasion.

What Are Laminate Films Used For?

Typical applications include coffee, tea and cocoa packaging, snacks, nuts and dried fruit, MAP packaging for meat, sausage and cheese, frozen products, stand-up pouches with zipper, as well as barrier packaging for pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and cleaning products.
